Butterfly Class is our Year One and Two class, taught by Mrs Dearn.
Have a look at what we’ve been doing recently:
Learning continues in a practical and fun way linked to our creative curriculum. Throughout the year the children will learn to:
- Develop their phonics knowledge, and learn some spelling rules. We use the Letters and Sounds scheme for phonics and we use Collins Big Cat Reading books for home reading and Ginn Lighthouse for guided reading books in the classroom. For further information about these phonics and reading schemes, please contact our Key Stage 1 Phonics Lead, Mrs Dearn, via the school telephone number.
- Improve their writing style and structure.
- Use and apply a range of Numeracy strategies to all subject areas, including Science, PE and Geography, in addition to Numeracy itself.
Home Learning In Butterfly Class
“Every week Mrs Dearn sets home learning that links to what we have been doing in our lessons.” Year two member of Butterfly Class.
This allows parents and carers to be part of their children’s learning journey – to celebrate their successes and support them in the challenges they may be experiencing.
Our Expectations for Home Learning in Butterfly Class
Recommended minimum time to spend on home learning – 10 minutes reading per day PLUS 30 minutes per week on other identified home learning.
As a school we follow a creative curriculum whereby each term is thematic in its approach.
Each term, the children can create a topic project (Project X) that can take any form (poster, model, PowerPoint, story) to share with their peers. To celebrate this the children present their projects as wise Professors to the whole class. This is a super speaking and listening opportunity that allows our children to share their knowledge, and flourish in confidence.
