Our Curriculum

Our teaching staff work hard to ensure that the curriculum we offer matches and extends that required by the Department for Education. We emphasize the importance of the core curriculum subjects of English, Maths and Science. In Key Stage 1, we follow the Letters and Sounds scheme for phonics and we use Collins Big Cat Reading books for home reading and Ginn Lighthouse for guided reading books in the classroom.  Our curriculum enables our children to master the necessary skills of reading and writing. It also provides them with the understanding of mathematics and science which develops from practical activities, experimentation and personal discovery.

We teach the foundation subjects of Art, Design and Technology, Geography, History, Computing, Music a

nd PE in relation to the age and stage of development of our individual children. Our younger children enjoy learning from their own experiences and are guided by the teacher to learn by discovery. As the children move through the school, we aim for them to gain responsibility and initiative by undertaking activities such as organising worship, plays and topics.

Our Christian Ethos

Our school is a Church of England School and the Christian ethos of care and respect for ourselves, other people, and our world underpins all our work. We hope this enables us to develop good habits, consideration for others and a spiritual awareness.

Extra Activities

We have a number of regular extra activities that the children may take part in. These activities mostly take place during school time.

Musical Instruments: We currently offer tuition through a mix of  music lessons, private tuition and the Dorset Music Service.  Instruments include guitar, saxophone, flute, piano and drums.

French Club: Our French Club takes place weekly after school (for a small cost).

Choir: We have a weekly choir practice and the children often perform locally at both school and community events.

Art Club: This is a weekly lunchtime club where children can develop and practise their art skills.

Sports Clubs: Throughout the year, we run a wide variety of sports’ clubs, both after school and at lunchtimes.
