Tests and Assessments
We firmly believe that one of the strengths of our school is that we know each child really well and most importantly give the necessary help and support to each individual child to fulfill their potential. We do this through on-going teacher assessments, and detailed tracking that allows us to show individual progress. Parent evenings and annual reports allow all parents to see how their children have developed.
When the children start in the Reception class simple assessments are carried out. These are used, in conjunction with the information that has been carried through from Pre-School, to provide a starting point against which progress can be measured. Throughout the Reception Year a Foundation Profile is compiled to show each child’s achievements.
Children in Year 1 take part in National Phonics Screening in June. This is a 1:1 session with the class teacher and is designed to be as stress-free as possible.
Our children will sit a number of Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) during their time at with us. Their reading, writing and mathematics will be first tested as they reach the age of seven when they do their Key Stage One SATs. When they reach Year Six, the children will be expected to take End of Year Key Stage Two SATs.
