Our teaching staff work hard to ensure that the curriculum we offer matches and extends that required by the Department for Education. We emphasize the importance of the core curriculum subjects of English, Maths and Science. In Key Stage 1, we follow the Letters and Sounds scheme for phonics and we use Collins Big Cat Reading books for home reading and Ginn Lighthouse for guided reading books in the classroom.
Our curriculum enables our children to master the necessary skills of reading and writing. It also provides them with the understanding of mathematics and science which develops from practical activities, experimentation and personal discovery.
We teach the foundation subjects of Art, Design and Technology, Geography, History, Computing, Music and PE in relation to the age and stage of development of our individual children. Our younger children enjoy learning from their own experiences and are guided by the teacher to learn by discovery. As the children move through the school, we aim for them to gain responsibility and initiative by undertaking activities such as organising worship, plays and topics.
Our Christian Ethos
Our school is a Church of England School and the Christian ethos of care and respect for ourselves, other people, and our world underpins all our work. We hope this enables us to develop good habits, consideration for others and a spiritual awareness.
