Food & Drink
We understand how important a balanced, nutritious diet is for our children and encourage healthy eating at Corfe Castle Primary School.
Every child in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 (Key Stage 1) is entitled to free school meals under government legislation.
Free school meals are also available to children whose parents receive financial support and can be applied for through Pupil Premium Funding. For further information please speak to staff in the office who will be happy to help, or contact the free school meal team freeschoolmeals@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk
You can apply for free school meals through the Dorset Council website via the following link https://www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/education-and-training/schools-and-learning/at-school/free-school-meals.aspx
Free School Meals, and chargeable school meals for children not eligible for funding, can be ordered online via Chartwells.
Break Time Snacks
The Government provides free fruit snacks in the morning for children in Reception and Key Stage One. Older children are encouraged to bring in their own healthy snacks for break time, although it is preferable if these are fruit or another similar healthy option.
The Government also provides free cartons of milk for all four year olds and parents are able to pay for milk to continue when their child turns five.
Drinking Water
All children are encouraged to bring a named bottle of water to school with them. This bottle of water is kept in the classrooms and can be refilled as necessary so that they children always have a drink to hand.
Lunchtime
Lunchtime is from 12pm until 1pm. Children can choose to bring a healthy packed lunch (no nuts please) or have a hot school meal. The hot school meals are provided by Clever Chefs and you must order your meals at least a week in advance via the website. Please contact us if you think you may be entitled to free school meals. Please do not send your child with fizzy drinks, they can have juice or water in their lunch boxes.

Children in Reception, Year 1 and 2 are automatically entitled to receive Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM). On average the saving of switching to school meals is approximately £400 per year.
We recommend that you book meals for the whole term to ensure meals have been ordered without having to remember to book them on a weekly basis. Please be aware that there are 3 options daily and the menu runs on a 3-week cycle, should your child prefer a different meal after trying what is booked for them, you can easily alter this on our website in line with our cut off points.
